The number of London home owners trying to move to the countryside has doubled in the past year.

Expert homefinders say spiralling house prices in the capital have triggered an exodus of families seeking to use extra cash from property sales to buy larger homes outside the city.

Tracy Kellett, founder of BDI Home Finders UK, which provides a house hunter services, said the number of London-based clients looking for properties in rural areas had gone up from 20 a month last year to 40 a month now.
